Mike Heiser’s ETS Paper: The Divine Council in the Pentateuch

by drmsheiser | Nov 24, 2016

A week ago I presented this invited paper in the ETS Pentateuch section:

The paper isn’t an academic work per se. It’s more conversational. I took that route because of the time limitation. However, it does have some different material than you’ll find in The Unseen Realm. Some stuff for scholars / Hebrew language geeks!

The paper refers to a handout, so here that is as well:

The paper was received very well. I’ve been presenting divine council research for almost ten years at ETS. This is the first time the room I was in was completely full, with people having to sit on the floor and listen from the hallway. I had several good discussions with OT professors and grad students afterwards.

It ain’t just me, folks!

Hey Mike I’ve recently come across your work on the Two Powers in Heaven and I can’t tell you what help you’ve been in my own work and mission. After being thoroughly impressed by it, I started cruising through the rest of your material and… let’s just say you’ve got new Miqlat supporter in me, Mike. I also bought and read (devoured in about two weeks, really) your Facade series to get your take on eschatology (which you are understandably apprehensive to navigate) and the UFO phenomenon of which I am a complete layman on. I have to commend you for the fact that while I went in for the research embedded in it, the thing that drove me to devour them so quickly was the human element in the relationship between Brian and Melissa. Well done. It’s been a while since I’ve found fiction so compelling, Mike
Anyhow, reading them and some of your work on the blog reminded me of a video I saw a while ago and wanted to share it with you. This guys’ a Christian but has a decidedly different take then most “fundamentalists.”

Interested to hear how much of what he says you’re familiar worth and what you think, Dr. Heiser. May Christ be with you, my friend.

Interesting how he used the scenes from the “V” remake. I’ve actually corresponded with the video creator before, but had not seen this. I’ve asked him to do some Peeranormal episodes. We’ll see if that happens.

Thanks for the comments about Brian and Melissa. Been thinking about them a lot lately.
