The writer of Hebrews builds on his assertions that the particular son of God (Jesus) who was the agent of creation, eternal wisdom, and the essence of God, by comparing him to other supernatural sons of God (angels). But what does a phrase like “You are my son, today...

Melchizedek is one of the more enigmatic figures in the Bible. Mentioned in only two passages in the Old Testament (Gen 14:17-24; Psalm 110), he nevertheless drew a lot of attention during the Second Temple Period and the New Testament. Thousands of pages of scholarly...

Core Ideas in The Unseen Realm
Over the past few days I've begun preparing for some speaking events that will happen in September and October related to The Unseen Realm. As things stand now, I've confirmed invitations from the messianic congregation Beit Tefillah in Gig Harbor, WA (Sept 12,...
Baptism as Spiritual Warfare
Over the weekend I had occasion to send a friend some pages from my Myth That is True first draft that pertained to a difficult passage, 1 Peter 3:14-22. I could hardly believe I had not posted on it before (searched for it and came up empty). So, I’ve decided to...
The Plural Elohim of Psalm 82: Gods or Men?
[Note: For other posts on Mike's work on the divine council, click here for the archive.] At last week's annual ETS (Evangelical Theological Society) meeting I read two papers. The first was entitled. "What Is / Are (an) Elohim?" It dealt with why the reality of...
Round Two with John Hobbins and the Bellingham Statement
I really don't like basketball ("ball in Mike's court"), so the boxing metaphor is substituted! Once again, I'm pleased to chat with John and the rest of you in regard to his latest post responding to my comments on his revision of my Bellingham Statement draft. Here...
Exposing the Work of Zecharia Sitchin, Part 2: Does the Bible Have the Gods Creating Humankind?
This is a Sitchin signature teaching. In an effort to marry his notion that the Anunnaki (a group of gods in the Sumero-Mesopotamian pantheon) created humankind to the biblical story, Sitchin teaches that the Bible itself has plural gods creating humankind in Genesis....
Of Truth Watchers and Inept Readers
Those of you who have read my books (especially, The Unseen Realm) or heard me on interviews will enjoy this -- it's about what happens when people who don't read my books talk about what I believe. I usually don't respond to this sort of nonsense, because the people...
I’ve Edited (and Now Published) a New Book on the Anunnaki
Many readers will have heard of the Anunnaki -- hopefully listening to me debunk nonsense about them and not from Ancient Aliens. One of the problems with getting quality information about the Anunnaki is that the best material was published decades ago in German and...
Naked Bible Conference Speaker and Topic Profile #4
Our fourth speaker and topic profile for the inaugural Naked Bible Conference in Dallas, TX on August 18 is Dr. William ("Rusty") Osborne. I've alluded to Dr. Osborne's work on the Naked Bible Podcast several times. His dissertation was on tree imagery and symbolism...
Misquoted (Or Perhaps Misunderstood) in a Recent Book
This isn't a big deal, but it's sort of illustrative of how I can be misunderstood, and how Bible translations can be misleading. I recently received an email that alerted me to the above this way: The present globalist-versus-Christian war is taking place in both the...
Naked Bible Podcast Episode 172: Melchizedek Q & A
The episode is now live. In this follow-up to the multi-part Melchizedek series, Dr. Michael Heiser answers listener questions exploring the deeper and often speculative traditions about the mysterious priest-king of Genesis 14. This Q&A episode touches not only...
Heavenly Worship in Second Temple Judaism, Early Christianity, and Gnostic Sects: Part 1
By guest blogger, Stephen L. Huebscher This series was originally written as an academic paper for presentation at a conference. At the time, we were doing research on the divine council for what ended up in Mike’s book The Unseen Realm. I had told Mike I was...
