Well, I'm finally home from San Diego. Lots I could talk about. This year's meeting was as hectic as always (pretty much 9-9 every day), but was one of the better ones for me in recent memory. First there was the hotel -- not the one for ETS (for those traveling to...
Unseen Realm
Peter Gentry on the Nephilim
Addendum to Peter Gentry on the Nephilim, December 13, 2019 - MSH I'm tempted to just tell readers to ignore what follows below (my original post) because it seems I have misunderstood Peter's trajectory. But it's there since it might be applicable to someone out...
Did Yahweh Demand Blood for a True Relationship with Him? Part 3: Bloodless Atonement and New Testament Justification
[MSH: When readers finish this essay, they will recognize its internal consistency with my argument in The Unseen Realm that salvation was the same across the board in both testaments. The issue was believing loyalty to Yahweh. Dr. Johnson raises the question of how...
Someone in Israel is Attacking Me and It’s Funny, Uninformed, and Dishonest
That's how these things usually go. When I checked my email this morning I saw that a friend had sent me this piece of nonsense: someone behind a blog called "NARWatch" in Israel is attacking me and my content. Normally I don't even read these. There haven't been...
The Big Story of the Bible, Part 10
What follows is part 10 in a series by Dr. Ronn Johnson. - MSH I have been away from this blog for some time, though it has been constantly on my mind. Since my last post, I have written and presented a course at our church on the big story of the Bible. It was...
Addendum to Peter Gentry on the Nephilim
I'm tempted to just tell readers to ignore my original post on Peter Gentry's thoughts on the Nephilim, because it seems I have misunderstood Peter's trajectory. But I have nevertheless let it remain on the blog (accompanied by what follows) since it might be...
Elohim, Divine Council, Psalm 82, OT Monotheism Archive
I get a lot of email about my views on Yahweh and divine plurality. You’d think people would find my material via Google or my divine council website, but I guess not. I’m making this page for you all, of course, but also to provide myself a convenient one-stop link...
What is the Bible’s Big Story? Part 1
A guest post by Dr. Ronn Johnson I recently heard that we see more images or pictures in one day (whether on our phone, on the TV, on a billboard, etc.) than a pre-Renaissance person would have seen over the course of their entire lifetime. Apparently our brains have...
Naked Bible Podcast Episode 145: Ezekiel 31 and the Cosmic Tree
Ezekiel 31 is part of the prophet’s oracles against Egypt (chs. 29-32). The chapter strikes an analogy between the mighty nation of Egypt and a great cedar tree in Eden, the envy of other glorious trees in the garden of God. The symbol of the “world tree” or “cosmic...
All I Want for Christmas is Another Flawed Nephilim Rebuttal
A week or so ago I blogged about Dr. Peter Gentry’s attempt to divorce the Nephilim from the supernatural sons of God via a YouTube video he created. His argument isn’t coherent because it implodes on itself, as I noted. In more recent days (Is there some reason the...
Gandalf and His Ministry Going Forward
Many of you will know that by “Gandalf” I’m referring to myself. The label came about some years ago during an interview about how I view the believing Christian world (the Christianity that is rooted in the actual gospel) functions in three realms, one of which is...
A Tale of Two Unseen Realm Reviews
My bestselling book, The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible, was recently reviewed in two places online. The book has been positively reviewed in academic outlets, evangelical or otherwise, since its debut in 2015 (JETS, Themelios, RBL)....
Response to Dr. Thomas Howe’s Thoughts on The Unseen Realm
I’ve been asked by a couple of people to respond to Thomas Howe’s thoughts on The Unseen Realm. For those unfamiliar with Dr. Howe, he teaches apologetics at Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, a school deservedly well known for important work in that field....
Bible Project Archive of Spiritual Beings Videos On Which Mike Was a Consultant
Everyone - I just saw this link from the Bible Project in my Twitter feed. It's a one-stop page / collection of the videos in their spiritual beings series. I was a consultant on the scripts for these videos. It's pretty convenient, given the amount of material they...
