Following Michael Heiser's work on the paranormal, one thing you might notice is that he frequently paid close attention to claims about UFOs, including supposed government disclosures as well as religious ideas that often grow around these topics. He addressed these...
UFOs
Theology, Politics, and Astrobiology
It’s been nearly two weeks since I attended the annual scholarly society meetings for scholars in my field of study and interest: the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), the Near East Archaeological Society (NEAS), the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR),...
Blogging with Dr. Barry, Part 3
Same procedure as the previous two posts. My response is blocked and marked by "MSH". -------------- You do not become a hermeneutical rapist overnight. I didn't just wake up one day and decide to write The Bible and Flying Saucers . Two important elements in my early...
Blogging With Dr. Barry, Part 1
Some readers brought this link to my attention this past weekend. It's a response on the part of Dr. Barry Downing to some thoughts I had on his work some time ago. For those who don't know who Barry Downing is, he's the author of a book called Flying Saucers and the...
Naked Bible Podcast Episode 112 – Ezekiel 1
The episode is live, here. Short version: It wasn't a UFO. In this episode, Dr. Michael Heiser explores the powerful and controversial throne vision of Ezekiel 1—a passage often misunderstood and misused by modern UFO theorists. Heiser takes listeners on a guided tour...
The Spaceships of Ezekiel Fraud
I've blogged before (here and here) about how what the biblical prophet Ezekiel saw was not a UFO or flying saucer. From time to time I get email (or comments here) about how I'm wrong because of the "research" of Joseph Blumrich, a pseudo-scientist who blessed the...
Betty Hill’s Star Map vs. Real Astronomy
From time to time I see the idea of actual intelligent ET visitation defended on the basis of the Betty and Barney Hill abduction -- specifically, on the basis of the "star map" that Betty Hill allegedly saw while on board the alien space ship during her abduction....
Can Christianity Accommodate An Extraterrestrial Reality? Dr. Heiser’s 2003 God, Man, ET Lecture
I just came across my lecture from the 2003 God, Man, and ET Conference on YouTube. The event was hosted at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. I participated in the planning of the event. Aside from myself, the speakers were Dr. Hugh Ross, Dr. Paul Nelson, Richard...
Understanding the Christian Fundamentalist View of UFOs and Aliens, Part 10
Well, it's about time I got back to this. When I last left you, I had noted that I was writing about end times over on my Naked Bible blog and that you needed to check out that discussion to understand my hesitation on agreeing with the typical Christian...
Understanding the Christian Fundamentalist View of UFOs and Aliens, Part 7
I just posted another installment on eschatology (end times) over on my Naked Bible blog. Again, the goal in that series is to get people to understand that the typical "there's going to be a Great Tribulation, a rapture, and a millennial kingdom in Israel" view of...
What is “the” Christian View of Aliens? Part 1
The recent publicity spike for the upcoming Christian Symposium on Aliens, to be held this July in Roswell, NM, has prompted me to blog about its content. This symposium focuses on the view that what people think are aliens (mostly from contactee and abductee...
Majestic 12 Documents Show on Coast to Coast AM Tonight
I'm guessing I have some C2C listeners as readers, so I thought I'd blog this even though it's outside the realm of UFOs and religion. Ryan and Bob Wood are the guests tonight on the show. The topic is the MJ12 documents. I've had some people email me with some sort...
How Would a Biblical Writer Describe a UFO if He Saw One?
One of my most frequent points of irritation in the whole UFOs and religion arena is the idea that there are UFOs (as in flying spaceships) in the Bible (this is basically an Old Testament / Hebrew Bible issue, so that's my focus here). I want people to trust me when...
American UFO News of Interest
The National Archives recently de-classified records concerning a USAF project from the 1950s that aimed to build flying saucers. The schematic below is one of the pictures found at the above link. The project was known as "Project 1794." I've seen several posts on...
That NY Times / Department of Defense UFO Video Story … Unraveling?
You have to wonder after reading this essay at Wired.com: "What is Up with those Pentagon UFO Videos?" The article basically traces the history of the videos that accompanied the now famous NT Times article about a secret government program investigating UFOs (the...
