Naked Bible 93: The Book of Enoch in the Early Church
The book we know as 1 Enoch was well known to early Christians. Its importance produced an understandable question among some influential early Christian writers and, one may presume, Christians in general: Should 1 Enoch be considered inspired and thus “Scripture” in...
The Origin of Sin in Irenaeus and Jewish Pseudepigrapha (Enoch, Jubilees, Etc.)
Readers of this blog know that several people who've commented in the past about my views on Romans 5:12 have thought that plain reading of the text out of step with traditional Christianity. Below is an article (not publicly accessible) that shows that Irenaeus wrote...
Elohim, Divine Council, Psalm 82, OT Monotheism Archive
I get a lot of email about my views on Yahweh and divine plurality. You’d think people would find my material via Google or my divine council website, but I guess not. I’m making this page for you all, of course, but also to provide myself a convenient one-stop link...
The Divine Council and Early Christian Writers
Readers familiar with me and my work know that I think our theology needs to derive from the text, not tradition. This applies pointedly to the Old Testament -- the three-quarters of our Bible upon which our New Testament theology ought to be erected to have any hope...
Regional SBL Papers
[Note: For other posts on Mike's work on the divine council, click here for the archive.] [Note to those who left comments on this post: I have fixed the bad link in the earlier post.] Here are my two regional SBL papers (keep in mind that in both I spent part of my...

Society of Biblical Literature Papers Available Online
This link from the Ancient World Online (AWOL) will take you to a few dozen SBL seminar papers that have been made available for free. These were all SBL conference papers. Some that I downloaded: Michael Pietsch, University of Hamburg Prophetess of Doom:...
ET Life and Recent God Talk
[Update / Addendum 10/11/2011 - see the third paragraph.] I'm betting those of you who lurk on this blog have seen the recent spate (or is it semi-mindless repetition) of news stories about the impact an intelligent extraterrestrial reality would have on religion,...
Review of Mike’s Angels Book by Gospel Coalition
Readers will likely find this review of my new book (Angels: What the Bible Really Says About God's Heavenly Host) by Justin Dillehay of interest. I'm grateful that Justin took the time to review the book, and that the Gospel Coalition found it worth inclusion on...
Jesus and the Morning Star
One of the questions I get with some frequency concerns the phrase "(bright) morning star." The gist of the question usually concerns some presumed relationship between Jesus and Lucifer (the question, as we will see, is something of a misnomer all on its own). That's...
Theses and Dissertations on UFO-Related Topics
[UPDATE 6/26/2013: Thanks to Jonas for adding some theses and dissertations in a comment - I have added them at the end of this post. MSH. Thanks as well (7/1/2013) to the Spooky Paradigms blogger for directing my attention to his first post in the series, where he...
Sanhedrin Invites Nikki Haley To Be “President Of Organization Of 70 Nations”
Hat tip to Tom Horn for this one. You can read the article here ((published at BreakingIsraelNews.com). Here's a paragraph: During their session during the recent Hanukkah holiday, the Sanhedrin decided to invite Nikki Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United...
The (Pseudo) “Doctrine” of Fallen Angel Salvation: Research Sources
Just a brief follow-up on the subject of whether fallen angels can be redeemed. One of the curious points to me in this matter has been how some refer to the idea of angelic salvation as a "doctrine." That word conveys the impression (intentionally, I presume) that...
Naked Bible 76: Leviticus 16
This episode focuses on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) ritual. Unlike many popular commentaries teach, this important Old Testament ritual was about “resetting” the tabernacle/temple sanctuary, its priesthood, and the Israelite people to the state of ritual purity...
